Atouri is a brainchild of Tanusri Thakur, an English literature student, who breathes in fabric. As she says, I jut love the smell of the fabric”. Born out of her passion for craft and textile, Atouri encourages slow living and sustainability at its core.
Our Philosophy & Vision
Each Atouri garment is created in slow-pace, mindful aesthetics and in small batches to refrain from over production & wastage. Our garment are carefully handcrafted in Bengal, out of handspun and handwoven cotton mul and linen sourced from different regions in India.
We refrain from using synthetic material that takes decades to decompose and harm the planet.
We work closely with the weavers of Bengal, involved with design in checks and hand block prints and hand embroidery involving the people rooted in Bengal.
A garment made by us makes us feel that we are a part of the culture of our country; it should make you feel the same. A garment to be lived in, to be worn for years.
Our Aesthetics
Not Just a garment
Each of our garments in collective narration of the efforts and emotions of the makers behind it. Right from the weavers who are weaving the fabrics the dyers who are giving the garments the color of the mood. the people weaving the embellishments with the embroideries. The Master ji and the tailors, and the designer, herself from the pen and pater to you.
So, it is not just a garment.
We create designs that are effortless and timeless. We work in hand embroidery motifs, smocking, hand block prints, and checks that are driven by the thought of creating clothing that values humans through design that romances the everyday ordinary.
